An Uber self-driving car hit and killed a woman crossing the street in Tempe, Arizona.
The accident happened on March 19 in Tempe, Arizona, and the woman died in hospital from the injuries. This is the first time a pedestrian has suffered in an accident caused by an autonomous car.
Police said the car was in autonomous mode during the accident, and that the vehicle hit woman who walked outside the pedestrian crossing. At the time of the accident there was a car operator in the car.
“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family. We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation of this incident. ” – Uber wrote on Twitter.
After the accident, the company said it was suspending tests of its self-driving cars in the streets of Arizona and other cities in the United States and Canada.
